UPDATE: Gen3 beta testing begins in October
September 26
In October we will begin the roll out of our Gen3 beta testing units. Beta testing units are full working prototypes where we will be looking for feedback on:
- Audio quality
- Fit and comfort
- Controls and user interface
- Connectivity
We have a limited number of testing units so we will be picking at random from our Insider community to be testing. Those who are testing will be asked to give feedback via a video interview so that we can share it with our community. We will contact you directly if you are selected to be a tester.
In the meantime, check out what goes down in our preperation of these hand made working sets.
Assembling the earbud and arm - we are using a pretty secret technique to get everything from the bud and arm as small as possible, it's great to see it fitting together.
Testing rigs - We set up the earbud to play audio through a specially designed acoustic tube that mimics how sound travels through the average ear. This allows us to test various design ideas and approaches to the acoustics.
Testing acoustic meshes - any aperture/hole in the earbud has an effect on the acoustics. Acoustic mesh's are used to <insert simon comment>...you can see in the images below, the various acoustic meshes impact the frequency response of the earbud. In the image below, each line is the frequency response of each individual filter paper we are trialling.
Testing drivers - we have made some tweaks to the speaker itself to ensure we get the best performance, consistently.
Testing the full electronics assembly - Before assembing into the complete assembly we connect everything up to test electronically that everything is working.
